BLYAD. SASHA BEING BOSSY was something of a turn on.

She snapped at me to do this and that, and I went with it, but only under these specific circumstances.

Besides, she was absolutely right. This was Kirill and Jo’s baby, and they deserved the best after all they’d survived.

I disinfected the tools she wanted in the autoclave I occasionally used when I did tattoos on myself.

But even though I’d perpetrated many brutal deaths starting from when I was a child and I’d witnessed far worse, I couldn’t help but flinch with each of Joanna’s shouts and growls.

A woman should not have to endure such pain to bring life into this world.

Under specific orders from Sasha, I cleared off a small table and carried it into the bedroom. I covered the surface in a clean sheet folded three time for no other reason than that was what she asked for. I arranged the scissors, the clamps, string, scalpel, and gauze on the platform beside her but only after I’d disinfected my hands too.

She left for a moment to scrub up again then snapped on gloves before taking her place between Jo’s widened legs.

I was not unversed in body modifications, but this was a whole new world. One that would have been unsettling if not for Sasha’s no-nonsense attitude when she addressed me and Kirill or her softer encouraging tones that helped soothe Jo.

“Someone shout down to Grigor. Tell him to run out and buy infant diapers.” That was my Sasha again, bossing me and my brother around as though she had every right.

And in this, she did. Because she was skilled and proficient and professional.

The moment she realized Jo was in labor, she’d sprang into action. I would’ve been frozen.

This wasn’t a flesh wound or a bullet hole. This was Kirill and Jo’s baby, a human life.

How in the hell could she be so calm?

When Kirill returned from passing on the command to Grigor, he looked ready to pass out, and I felt like I’d sweated right through my shirt already.

“Kirill, I assume you’ve chosen a pediatrician and her OB has been making house calls?” Sasha spared a moment to glance at him.

“Da.” His voice scraped from his throat. “I would never do anything to put Joanna’s or the baby’s life at risk.”

“Then call them now and tell them to come here.”

Jo flipped up to sitting. “Why? Is something wrong?”

“No, sweetie.” Tenderly swabbing her brow with a cold washcloth, Sasha comforted the expectant mother again. “Everything looks really good. You are amaze-balls. It’s just important that you and baby get checked out afterward.”

“Oh. Okay. I like being amaze-balls but I’d like some goddamn pain relief more.” The petite redhead gave a weary smile.

“I know. But it won’t be long now. Baby’s impatient. Wonder who the little bean gets that from,” Sasha effortlessly joked.

I felt clammy all over my body.

Kirill was dragging ragged breaths into his chest.

After the next, faster contraction, Jo clung to Sasha’s hands. “What if I’m a horrible ma though? What if there’s something wrong with the baby because of me?”

“Pssht.
